A record number from Alnwick’s Junior Tri club took part in one of the biggest junior triathlons in the North-East when they travelled down to Hexham earlier this month.
Fourteen Junior triathletes got up at 5am to make it down for a 7am registration for the event run by One Life Racing on the 14th of June.
In Tristar 2, Max Breese managed to finish in a very credible 5th position in the boys event despite miscounting the laps on his run and having to go out and run an extra lap.
In the girls event Jessica Swan, after a good swim, came in 12th.
In Tristar 3, Georgina Lance came in 12th, with her twin Juliette less than a minute behind her in 13th both showing excellent progress from last year.
Ross Charlton just missed a podium place coming in fourth among the boys. Benji Gillingham, competing in his first triathlon, showed his class in the pool, recording the third fastest time and finishing a very respectable 12th overall with Robert Stephenson just a few seconds behind him in 13th after a great run.
Jack Stewart showed how much he’s improved with a strong swim coming in 15th overall.
Jack Douglas unfortunately encountered difficulties on the cycle leg and was unable to complete the event.
In the Youth event, which included a 10k cycle on the open road, Jessica Duffy showed her class in the pool as usual recording the third fastest time and just missing a podium place by finishing fourth overall.
Catherine Jackson, in only her second triathlon, showed great determination to come in tenth in the girls’ event.
Dan Fletcher, one of the club’s most experienced triathletes put in an accomplished performance in the boys event, just missing a podium place by coming in fourth.
Adam Scott, building on his success in the Alnwick Sprint Tri, finished well to come in eighth with Oliver Gillingham, in his first triathlon, also performing with huge determination and a very strong run, finishing ninth.
Also from the Alnwick area but too young still to be a member of the Club, Millie Breese had success in Tristar 1 with another excellent performance coming in third.
A number of those taking part had only joined the club this year and showed real courage and excellent skills thanks to the club’s wonderful team of dedicated coaches.
