Jon sets new PB in the New York Marathon

From the Fruit Bowl Trail Race to a marathon in the Big Apple, Alnwick Harriers enjoyed a tasty weekend of running.

Perhaps the highlight was Jon Archer’s fine run at the New York Marathon on Sunday. His impressive 3.09.01 was the fastest this year by an Alnwick Harrier over the 26.2-mile distance.

Ever-improving Jon, who earned promotion to the medium pack at the last cross-country outing at Gosforth, has been no stranger to PBs this year, and he did it once again at the weekend – knocking an incredible 18 minutes off his previous marathon time.

Closer to home, Dave Richardson posted a speedy 34.53 at the Leeds Abbey Dash. Dave just missed out on a 10k PB, but his sub-35 was still an excellent time.

Elsewhere, Stephen Cowell and Mel Steer were in action at the Gibside Fruit Bowl Trail Race.

Stephen finished the course – approximately seven miles – in 59.33, while Mel crossed the line in 1.05.10.

On Saturday, a large contingent of Harriers competed in parkruns.
