Joan rolls the first bowl to start the summer season

BOWLERS in Wooler are inviting people to join them for a new season.

Wooler Bowling Club starts its new season on Saturday at 2pm.

Joan Weddell, who was made an honorary member last year, will be rolling the first bowl for 2012.

There is a a busy programme of events this year.

On June 4, the club will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a charity event to support the Visually Impaired Bowlers of England.

It is providing free bowls taster sessions on Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm for four weeks from May 17. Open to men and women with no age limit, bowls will be available for hire.

Ladies also meet on Tuesday afternoons at 2pm for bowling practice.

Every Monday is ‘hat night’ from 6.30pm. Members draw a number from the hat to decide which rink and team they will play in.
