Jo Gascoigne-Owens continued her superb form this year by finishing as first female in yet another race, this time Saturday’s Newcastle Parkrun.
Jo finished over half a minute ahead of her nearest female rival by coming seventh of the 378 runners on a warm, sunny morning on the Town Moor.
Jo ran her first ever 5k in a time of 17.33 which smashed the female 5k club record by well over two minutes.
She has been in superb form in recent months winning the female events in the recent Hawkshead Trail Race, Les Allcorn 10k, Druridge Bay 10k and Northumberland Coastal Run.
As well as the 5k club record Jo also broke the 10k record this year, the 10-mile record at the end of last year and the marathon record in 2008.
However, first Harrier home in a new 5k pb of 17.08 was the ultra-consistent Bruce Crombie.
Bruce was a great fourth overall and was first in the male 40 category, knocking 12 seconds off his previous 5k pb.
Agonisingly Bruce was a mere seven seconds outside the best ever Parkrun by an Alnwick Harrier, set by Richard Agan in 2011.
Danny Richardson ran well ensuring that the club had three runners in the top 20, by finishing 19th.
To complete a great day for the club Diana Weightman was first in the female 50 category, finishing as sixth overall female, with a one second pb of 22.01.
Results: 4-Bruce Crombie 17.08; 7-Jo Gascoigne-Owens 17.33; 19-Danny Richardson 18.48; 93-Mark Doctor 21.45; 100-Diana Weightman 22.01; 148-Kim Bronze 23.43; 174-Phil Lee 24.31.
