Retired PE teacher, Archie Jenkins, has returned from Brazil and the World Masters Athletics Championships, as part of the Great Britain management team, specifically in charge of middle and long-distance running.
His trip took in visits to Rio de Janeiro, including a game at the Maracana Stadium, the venue for next year’s World Cup final.
Although still competing, Archie, a former Duchess’s Community High School teacher, has been involved in GB team management for World and European Outdoor, Indoor and Non-stadia Championships since 2005.
It was the first time that the World Masters Championships had been held in South America, with Porto Alegre the chosen venue.
Archie said that despite a warm welcome, various organisational problems created challenges for World Masters Athletics and visiting team managers.
