Alnwick 9 Northern 13
NORTHERN DIVISION, NORTH ONE EAST
Alnwick couldn’t make it three games unbeaten as they slipped to a narrow defeat in a low-scoring, tense battle at Greensfield this afternoon.
The first half was a cagey affair with just a penalty apiece to trouble the scoreboard.
After the break, the score began to tick a bit more quickly as the visitors scored a converted try and Alnwick added another two three-point scores.
And in a nail-biting final quarter, the Northern defence held out while in attack they added another penalty to ensure the win.
But the four-point deficit means the north Northumbrians picked up a losing bonus point.
Alnwick started the day eighth in the league, two places and four points above today’s visitors, after last week’s hard-fought draw in Yorkshire at Old Crossleyans and the previous comfortable win over Pocklington.
