Harriers’ thirteen in luck

THIRTEEN Alnwick Harriers made the annual pilgrimage to West Yorkshire to take part in the Liversedge Half Marathon on Sunday, February 12.

Held in cool, but wind-free conditions there were some great Harrier performances on the testing course which takes in places such as Cleckheaton and Brighouse. The first Harrier to finish was Mike Telfer, clocking a personal best of 1.29.31 in the process, finishing 46th of the 467 finishers.

Second, just missing out on a pb but improving on his 2011 time in the same race by almost 10 minutes, was Mark Doctor. Then came the first female Harrier, Vee Pollock, making her half-marathon debut, in an impressive 1.39.49.

A special mention must also go to Bridget Peberdy who was taking part in the race despite doing a 30-mile training run the day before, as she prepares for the Highland Fling 53-mile race at the end of April. Also to John Ross who was running his 151st half marathon.
