A GROUP of Alnwick Harriers travelled to Tyneside last Wednesday to take part in the Newburn River Run, an off-road event covering a distance of more than 6.5 miles.
The picturesque route took 350 runners from the sports centre along the north bank of the Tyne to Wylam then back along the south bank cycle track.
On a wet and humid evening, first home for Alnwick was Mark Miller, who was 19th overall in 40:17 followed by Jim Lillico, who took second overall place in his category in 41:57.
Third to finish was John Ross in 47:37 followed by Charlie Gillon, Phil Lee and Mark Hume.
The Alnwick Women’s first place was won by Lisa Williams, who also notched a personal best of 46:53 at the 10k point and completed the race in 49:19. Second female was Anne Allen in 52:48.
The race was part of the Harriers Grand Prix Race Series. Currently, Lisa and Anne are in first and second positions respectively in their league. Mark Miller is currently leading the men’s No1 group and Phil is in first place in men’s No2 league.
