Harrier marks return from States with win

Alnwick Harriers

Well done to Bridget Peberdy – back in the country for a few weeks after recently moving to Boston – for her performance in the Durham Fell Runners-organised Cronkley Fell Race on Sunday.

Bridget won her age category in this 10.5-mile race with 1,752feet of ascent held at Middleton in Teesdale.

There was more Alnwick success when John Cockburn crossed the line shortly afterwards, thus winning the male 65 category.

Results: 44-Bridget Peberdy 2.07.41; 47-Dave Coates 2.09.06; 48-John Cockburn 2.12.08.

Meanwhile that same day there was yet more age category success for Gay Eastoe.

Gay once again won the female 55 category, this time in the Run Northumberland Kirkley 10k.

Results: 46-Gay Eastoe 55.12; 47-Richard Eastoe 55.13; 55-Clare Hiscock 57.09.

The previous day, there were some good performances from our regular Parkrunners.

Most notably from Charlotte Baston, who once again chipped more time off her 5k pb and beat her dad in the process.

There were also quick times from Daniel Leng and Danny Richardson.

Results: Newcastle: 12-Daniel Leng 18.26; 111-Charlotte Baston 22.37; 114-Phil Baston 22.49; 161-Phil Lee 24.16. Whitley Bay: 5-Danny Richardson 18.28.

Finally back on Wednesday, Gay and Richard Eastoe were taking part in the BodyFit Eaglesfield Paddle 5k near Cockermouth.

The pair finished 118th and 119th in 27.43 and 27.44, with Gay just finishing ahead.

A reminder that Alnwick Harriers’ annual Northumberland Coastal Run takes place on Sunday, July 14.

The race, which has long since sold out, starts at Beadnell at 10.30am and finishes 14 miles later on the beach at Alnmouth. Morpeth Harriers’ Ian Harding won last year’s race in a time of 1:16:54.
