OPEN DAY (AT WARKWORTH)
COMPETITORS battled relentless wind and rain in Saturday’s Kaims Country Park North Northumberland League Open Day at Warkworth.
Despite the wretched conditions, there were several notable returns – like the excellent par round of 70 by Simon Olver of Seahouses and the 71 by Alnwick’s Joe Henderson, both in the gross section.
The placings were reversed in the nett section with Henderson posting a 66 and Olver 67 along with David Reay of Percy Wood and Rothbury’s Brian Arnott.
Next on 68 was Dunstanburgh’s Paul Kingsland and Rothbury schoolboy Greg Woodburn, making a memorable debut for his home club in the league.
Dunstanburgh topped the gross section (best four scores counting) with 298 ahead of Warkworth on 309. Rothbury led the nett section on 273 with Warkworth runners-up on 280. Results:
