Golfers get to grips with new scoring system

KAIMS Country Park North Northumberland Golf League

A DIFFERENT scoring system is in place this year for the league’s Saturday Open Day series in an attempt to ‘spice up’ the competition.

Strokeplay has been replaced by Stableford and Seahouses hosted the opening event at the weekend in difficult, windy conditions.

The 10 competing clubs are each allowed a maximum of eight players and the first ‘open’ was just two short of a full turn-out, which bodes well for future events.

The individual part is now in three sections – scratch to nine, ten to 16 and 17 to 24 – while the team event remains unchanged with the best four scores counting for the gross and nett awards.

Results:- Individual gross: 32pts RI Campbell (Alnmouth Village); 31 R Ritchie (Seahouses); 30 J Friar (Alnwick), 30 N Holden (Alnmouth Village); 29 G Mallaburn (Dunstanburgh), 29 M Arkle (Rothbury). Nett: 39 R Ritchie (Seahouses); 36 R Howcroft (Dunstanburgh), 36 J Friar (Alnwick), 36 G Mallaburn (Dunstanburgh); 35 T Capron (Warkworth); 35 D Upton (Rothbury); 35 AW Black (Alnwick); 35 B White (Rothbury); 35 H Hogg (Rothbury); 35 N Holden (Alnmouth Village); 35 L Bolton (Burgham Park).
