The Festival of Britain competition was played on Sunday over the Alnwick course, and for a change calm conditions greeted the golfers

Club stalwart Peter Lewis prevailed and took the victory with a fine 39 points. Runner up was Alan Mcneil whose 37 points snatched second place from Michael Bell also 37 on countback. Three players shot the par 36 points – Cyril Jobson, Steve Barron and young Andrew Short.

A fantastic four twos on the day saw Iain Bell, Colin Donaldson, Cyril Jobson and Lewis Joss all share the pot.

The Cecil Leitch – The event winner was Morag Robertson with a score of 92-21=71, 2. Catherine Debbage 86-13=73, 3. Susan Blackshaw 96-22=74.Ladies’ 9-hole stableford – The winner was Noreen Jeffrey with a score of 16pts, and runner-up was Dinah McIlroy on 14pts.
