A 12-year-old Alnwick boy will be the envy of many golfers after hitting a hole-in-one.

Andrew Short hit the ace on the 17th hole at Alnwick Golf Club while playing with his grandad Philip Short.

His mum, Sarah, said: “He didn’t know it had gone in immediately so they walked up to the green and his grandad had a look in the hole and couldn’t believe it.

“Andrew just picked the ball up and walked away smiling. I think it hit him later on because he wouldn’t stop talking about at home.”

Andrew, a pupil at Duchess’s Community High School, took up the game last summer when his nana started working at the club.

“He got new golf clubs for Christmas but because of lockdown hadn’t been able to play,” said Sarah. “On his first game back he wasn’t happy with how he played but when he went out again this happened so he was very pleased.”
