A charity golf day is being held at Ponteland.

A look at the results from the local courses

Alnwick

By winning the Charity Tankard competition last week Marc Friar has eased his nose in front in the Easyway Order of Merit with if I am correct in thinking only two singles competitions remaining it is going to be a grandstand finish.

Marc’s score of 40 points secured first place and Gerry McInally was second two points behind. Cyril Jobson scored 37, and was placed third. Marc also had the best gross score of a one over par 71 on the day. Competition standard scratch on the day was 36pts so don’t forget to check your handicaps for next week.

One short of 50 competed and five players were in the two’s club namely Guy Ridley at the second, Barry Farrar and Connor Thompson at the fourth and Ian Bell and Alan McNeill both at the 17th.

The Alnwick Ladies were on hand once again to lighten pockets with a tombola and raffle, however, at the time of writing the total raised wasn’t available.

Last week also saw the senior captain’s end of season outing at Tyneside golf club. Played on a sunny day interspersed as so correctly predicted by Gordon Johnstone with a few squally showers coming along the Tyne valley. Nevertheless a great day was had by all with coffee and bacon sarnies to start and a lovely two course meal afterwards. The winner was super sub Don Havery who had only come in as a last minute replacement and his score of 37pts won on countback.

Two dates for your diaries, the tickets are now available for the presentation night on Saturday, November 21, but before that the one you’ve all been waiting for captain Duy’s now world famous Oriental Banquet which will be held to mark the end of the summer season on Saturday, November 7.

Further details about both of these events will be available on the clubhouse notice board or by phoning 01665 602632.
