Alnwick Triathlete Jo Gascoigne-Owens has added a European gold to her World Aquathlon gold won in 2013.

Jo won the medal in Cologne, Germany where she competed for the Great Britain age group team in the Aquathlon.

Aquathlon is an exciting swim-run event.

“I left the water in second place after the 1km swim in the River Rhine,” she said. “Quickly taking over the leading lady at the start of the 5km run, I held this lead for the remainder of the race, finishing over two minutes ahead of my nearest rival and 3.5 minutes ahead of the closest competitor in my age-group.

“I’m delighted to be European Champion. It’s so nice to see my training paying off. Bringing home the gold medal feels like a great way to thank everyone who has supported me along the way.”
