Girls, fancy trying cricket?

Following the England women’s success in retaining the Ashes, Alnmouth and Lesbury Cricket Club is looking to further develop and expand girls’ cricket this season and for the first time run an U13 girls’ team.

Any middle school-aged girls (Years 5 to 8) who fancy trying out cricket are invited to go along to three free taster sessions at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre on Wednesdays, the first being on Wednesday, February 26, between 6pm and 7pm, no equipment is needed.

Bill Batey, a junior coach at the club, said: “Over the last two or three seasons, we have seen a growing number of girls joining our junior section and it would be fantastic if we could form a team and give them some competitive matches this year.

“We have three girls currently attending county U13s practice sessions and a number of others who are showing excellent potential, with a few more players, we have the makings of a talented squad.”

Anyone interested should turn up next Wednesday and have a go.

Anyone wanting further information, or with boys or girls interested in joining Alnmouth and Lesbury Cricket Club Juniors, should contact Bill on 07971 810267.
