Get ready to push boat out this weekend

With one week to go before RYA Push the Boat Out weekend, sailing clubs across the North East are pulling off their sail covers and dusting off their buoyancy aids in readiness to welcome visitors over the weekend.

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Push the Boat Out weekend is part of National Watersports Month and hundreds of sailing clubs across the country will be opening their doors and inviting people of all ages and abilities to come along and have a go at sailing and windsurfing.

Whether you are completely new to the sport, looking to get back on the water or sail regularly, a sailing club or training centre near you will be taking part in RYA Push the Boat Out weekend.

The event will see hundreds of people taking part in the sport at open days, have-a-go sessions and fun events for all the family.

Celebrating the opening of their new facilities at Druridge Bay Country Park and following their very successful open weekend earlier this month, Coquet Shorebase Trust will be one of our regional clubs offering a range of activities on Saturday.

“Although getting wet isn’t guaranteed, bring a change of clothes just in case and everything else will be provided by the venue,” said Jackie Bennetts, RYA club support advisor. “You never know, you might even get hooked.”

RYA sport development manager, Duncan Truswell, added: “Push the Boat Out provides the perfect opportunity for people to discover their local sailing venue, meet like-minded people, have a go at the sport and find out how much fun it is.”
