IT was team cup night in the Alnwick Premier Darts League at the Gate last Friday, with both the Knockout Cup and Subsidiary Plate semis and finals being played.
All four semis saw Division A versus Division B opponents but there was to be no giant-killings with all four Division A sides proving victorious to make their respective finals.
In the Subsidiary Plate TeamDinga@GateB saw off a very plucky AWMC A side by 4-2 and the George also beat The Hotspur by the same margin.
In the final of the Plate, the match swung one way then the other, with The George opening up a 2-0 lead. They were led from the front by Jimmy Kelly, who enjoyed a superb night’s display, but TeamDinga dug deep and fought back to 2-2 before the match then went 3-2 and 3-3, Martin Davison of TeamDinga hitting 180 in the process.
It all came down to the last leg and it was the George who enjoyed success on the night, winning the leg and the Plate by 4-3.
Subsidiary Plate Semis: TeamDinga@Gate B 4 v 2 AWMC A; George 4 v 2 Hotspur.
Final: TeamDinga@GateB 3 v 4 George.
Martin Davison (TeamDinga) 180.
In the Knockout Cup semis, Division A champions Alnwick Gate A beat Division B champions AWMC B by 4-2, while the Oddies B enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Alnwick Gate C, with the Gate lads never really getting going on the night.
In the final, Alnwick Gate A went 1-0 up only for the Oddies to win three in a row, aided by a superb 100 check-out from Kevin Turner to go 3-1 up but the Gate then used all their cunning to fight back and scrape the game by 4-3 in a very tight final leg.
Knockout Cup semis: Alnwick Gate A 4 v 2 AWMC B ; Alnwick Gate C 0 v 4 Oddies B.
Final: Alnwick Gate A 4 v 3 Oddies B.
Kevin Turner, (Oddies B), 100 finish.
