Gate on title charge

ALNWICK Gate A continued their surge towards the league title with a 6-1 victory over the George.

Ian Tate scored a 180 for the Gate en route.

Lone point-scorer for the George was team captain Darren Melbourne but unfortunately the Gate were too strong for the George to add any more points.

The race for runner-up spot sees the Bar Bell B get their noses in front, courtesy of a 6-1 win over the Farriers, with Alan Rumney recording the Shilbottle men’s only point.

The Gate B managed a 5-2 win at the John Bull, with Rob Knox of the Bull scoring his second 180 of the season.

Every point was hard-fought throughout this match and the Bull were very unlucky indeed.

In the final Division A match of the week, the Fleece were on the wrong end of a 4-3 home defeat to the Oddies B.

In Division B, with leaders AWMC B having a week off, Alnwick Gate C sought to take advantage and did so with a good 5-2 win over Alnwick Castle Golf Club A.

Shilbottle Club enjoyed a convincing 6-1 win over Alnwick Working Men’s Club A and the Market Tavern also won by the same scoreline away at Alnwick castle Golf Club B, with Mary Ainslie of the Golf Club winning her side’s only point.

In the other Division B match, the Oddies A won 5-2 at home to the Hotspur.
