Foxton surge ahead

ALNMOUTH (Foxton) A increased their lead in the race for the A Division matchplay championship after last week’s fixtures.

A 10-2 victory at Rothbury saw them go 15 points clear of nearest challengers Bamburgh with just five games remaining.

Bamburgh recorded a remarkable 11-1 win at Goswick where points are always hard to come by, though it was not the romp the score would suggest. Four of the six games went to the last green, the home side losing three of them, the other being halved.

Bamburgh have a game in hand of their rivals and with Alnmouth, by a quirk in the fixtures, without a game for two weeks, they could close the gap significantly, but still have a lot to do to maintain a serious challenge.

The Foxton Hall club are also in contention for the B Division title, a 10-2 home win over Magdalene Fields leaving them just three points adrift of Seahouses with a game in hand.
