Greenside (89) v Alnwick I (90-3)

After beating Tynedale in the Tyneside Charity Bowl cup earlier in the week, Alnwick looked to make it four wins from their last four games as they travelled to an inconsistent Greenside team.

Captain Woods once again won the toss and decided to bowl as they looked to take early wickets on what looked a seamer-friendly wicket.

Opening bowlers Bateman and Roxburgh responded accordingly with Bateman making early inroads with both openers back in the pavilion with the score on six.

Then Roxburgh took two wickets in quick succession to remove Stephenson and Greenside captain Scott first ball to leave the home side struggling on 28-4.

Both Roxburgh and Bateman took advantage of a weak middle order to leave the away side in all kinds of problems on 57-9. With only one wicket remaining, Greenside hung around to try and get a competitive score of over 100, but eventually Roxburgh came back to bowl Simpson for a well-made 31.

Opening bowlers Roxburgh (4-27) and Bateman (5-37) finished off taking nine wickets between them.

After the restart, Greenside couldn’t ask for a better way to respond as they had Brewis and Scott caught off the first two balls of the innings leaving Alnwick under pressure on 0-2.

Guy came to the crease and counter-attacked particularly punishing anything short and along with Threlfall, who quickly went through the gears, steadied the ship.

Tones finally got the breakthrough Greenside so greatly needed by removing Guy for 28, but it was always going to be too little, too late, with Alnwick only needing ten to win.

Threlfall finished the match in style by hitting a boundary bringing up his half-century to complete a seven-wicket win for Alnwick inside 17 overs.
