But it wasn’t the best of days results wise with only Wooler picking up a point from an entertaining 5-5 draw at home with Red House Farm.

Red House have been struggling at the foot of the table all season, but after back to back wins this draw means they are now unbeaten in their last three games, which represents their best run of the year.

In what was a see-saw game, Wooler twice led in the first half but twice the Farmers hit back to equalise and make the game level at 2-2 at the break.

In the second half the visitors continued to impress and went 2-4 in front, but Wooler responded and scored three times to turn the match around and lead 5-4.

That was the score with only five minutes remaining, when Red House netted their fifth to take a deserved point.

Goalscorers for the Glendale side were Tait (2), Cowens, Crombie and Allan.

This weekend (March 7), Wooler are home to second from bottom Morpeth Town Reserves.

North Sunderland were forced to switch their home game against West Jesmond to Walker in Newcastle after their Seahouses pitch was deemed unplayable.

West Jesmond, who are second in the table behind leaders Ponteland Reserves, continued to press for the top with a 4-1 victory.

North Sunderland, who are fourth, take on Gosforth Bohemiens Reserves at home this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Lowick’s winless run continued when they travelled to the ‘Toon’ to take on Newcastle Chemfica Amateurs, where they went down to a 2-0 defeat.

Lowick, who have still not won a match since August, are home to the improving Red House Farm this weekend.

Alnwick Town saw their away game against Shankhouse in the Premier Division postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. They hope to get back into action this Saturday away to Cullercoats.

It proved to be a blank day all round for Alnwick Town as their Development Squad and U23s also saw their games called off in the NE Combination League.

The Development Squad had been due to play Coxlodge whilst the U23s were set to face Walkergate Reserves.
