Weakened Rangers notch a comfortable win

Longhoughton Rangers U13...5 Ryton AFC U13...1

U13 Pin Point League Division Three

A DEPLETED Longhoughton side registered a fine win at the weekend with an excellent team performance, despite being down to a bare 11 players due to the half-term holidays.

They started brightly when Turnbull was put through by a perfect pass from Coxford and was one-on-one with the keeper, who saved well.

Rangers took the lead shortly after when Turnbull chased down a ball, beat his defender and passed across the box to the unmarked Coxford, who finished confidently (1-0).

The home side unfortunately found themselves down to 10 men after Turnbull suffered a broken collarbone on 10 minutes.

Ryton pushed hard but were continually frustrated by the Longhoughton defence.

Coxford scored a tremendous goal on 15 minutes after sprinting clear through and finishing well in the bottom corner (2-0).

Despite being a player down, Rangers continued to threaten especially down the wings with Trapp and the industrious Robinson, while the central-midfield pair McKewan and Pusey, controlled the midfield confidently.

The second half continued the theme of the first with Ryton constantly being offside.

However, 10 minutes into the half, they eventually sprung the offside trap and the Ryton striker was through on goal and a penalty was awarded when the visiting forward was adjudged to have been brought down.

The penalty was struck well but keeper Slack guessed correctly and saved brilliantly. Rangers defender Robson was quickest to the rebound to clear.

Rangers went three to the good after Trapp scored a fine individual goal, turning a defender in the box and the lifting a shot over the keeper into the roof of the net (3-0).

They continued to defend well with Lindley coping very well as a stand-in central-defender and Allan getting in some vital tackles, Robson was having an outstanding game along with Briggs who didn’t put a foot wrong.

Two further goals from Coxford put the game beyond doubt and Ryton got themselves a consolation goal in the last minute (5-1).
