Alnwick Town FC news and match reports.

A tremendous effort by Alnwick saw them through to the next round of the FA Vase as they took on Pickering at home this afternoon.

The black’n’whites took the lead early on with Shanks starting his run of goals, after Pickering hit the post with their first effort making it 1-0 from the off.

Soon after Shanks got his second with a looping header crossed from Riddell. He then had another chance, but didn’t connect with the header.

Pickering had another chance but managed to hit the bar before Colley tried for Alnwick but his volley went just wide leaving it 2-0 at half time.

And Shanks opened the game again with his hat-trick not long after the second half started taking it to 3-0. Brown had a chance but hit the bar and Pickering started to get on the scoreboard with their first in the net.

Alnwick responded with a goal from McClelland making it 4-1 before two more goals from Pickering to take it to 4-3.

But wanting to keep the advantage Shanks put another one in the net to make it 5-3 at the finish.

Alnwick next take on Heaton Stannington at home on Tuesday night in the first round of the Northumberland Senior Cup.
