An incident packed end to end match which had seen Alnmouth trail 2-0 at half time before coming roaring back to lead ended with eventual loss of all three points at the death in controversial fashion.

The Scotswood side set up a comfortable margin before the break when Davy Gowing registered the first after cutting in from the right to shoot home from eight yards. The lead was doubled when Gary Dodds evaded two defenders and found the net from the edge of the area.

United gave themselves a boost immediately after the turnaround when Kevin Bell reduced the deficit finding space following a goalmouth scramble and the scores were level on the hour when Sean Anderson’s slide-rule through ball was exploited fully by Andy Murray who ran on to slot past advancing ‘keeper Chris Cuthbertson.

Five minutes later and Bell was again in the right place to hit the target.

Alnmouth then had another goal disallowed, but ten minutes from time Grainger Park tied the game up – Darren Young registering the leveller after piercing the back line.

The explosive finale sawChris Robinson hit the last kick winner despite an ignored offside flag for the knock on.
