United notch stalemate to stay third

Whitley Bay A...1 Amble Utd...1

Pin Point Recruitment Northern Alliance, Division One

AMBLE travelled to Hillheads to play Whitley Bay A in this Division One match, which was second v third in the league.

Whitley Bay nearly took the lead in the 30th minute when a shot by Lee Mason hit the post.

But in the 40th minute, Amble thought they had made the breakthrough when Ross Gair out-jumped the home centre-half and headed the ball over the keeper into the net. To their disappointment, the referee, in his wisdom, disallowed the goal and the score at half-time was 0-0.

After the interval, the home side got the game under way again and took the lead in the 48th minute after a good move down the right. Sean Taylor flipped the ball over for Shaun Kelly to head home.

After this, Amble were playing the more creative football but could not put their chances away.

But, in the 70th minute, the home side got an equaliser when Simon Murray crossed for Glen Taylor to head home.

After this, both teams had chances but the score at full-time was a 1-1 draw and probably a fair result over the 90 minutes. It kept Amble third in the league.
