United cut Forest down to size

Forest Hall...0 Lowick Utd...4

LOWICK travelled to Forest Hall to play a confident side riding high in the league after a good opening to their campaign.

Lowick were able to boast three substitutes for the first time this season and they were to prove very useful in a high tempo game.

Lowick started well and threatened from the kick-off, Michelle Stewart using her electric pace to force the excellent Forest Hall keeper into a number of saves.

The midfield was bolstered by the returning Jenny Patterson playing alongside her captain and midfield partner Kirstie Tang for only the second time this season.

Robyn Stewart and Mel Darling were causing all sorts of problems with their wing play creating chance after chance for the Lowick forwards but the keeper was not going to be beaten easily.

At half-time, Lowick were a little disappointed to be 0-0 having had numerous chances saved by the Forest Hall keeper.

Any Forest Hall attacks were dealt with by the resolute Lowick defence with Georgia Thompson showing a maturity well beyond her 16 years.

The second half saw the introduction of debutant Katherine Russell who recently transferred from Cramlington Juniors, where she was captain.

She took time to find her feet but held the line well upfront and was instrumental in creating the opener for M Stewart after a clearance fell to her on the edge of the box in the 55th minute.

M Stewart scored her second with a fine placed shot that gave the keeper no chance after 60 minutes. Patterson then scored a wonder goal in the 75th minute with a drive from at least 25 yards that screamed into the roof of the net.

Jodie Robinson replaced Patterson in the midfield with the clock ticking down and Stephanie Hay came on for Russell. With five minutes to go, M Stewart managed to wriggle free on the right and supply a superb cross that Hay brilliantly finished with a great header at the near post to make the final score 0-4 to Lowick.

Player-of-the-match: Georgia Thompson.

Lowick have a big game next week playing in the first round of the FA Cup at home to Cramlington Juniors. Kick-off 2pm and all are welcome for their first adventure in this exciting tournament.
