United brush past Morpeth for win

Morpeth Sporting...1 Amble Utd...4

Northern Alliance, Division One

AMBLE were back in league action, travelling to face neighbours Morpeth Sporting.

Amble got the game under way, but the home side took the initiative, creating one or two chances.

They took the lead in the 17th minute when Ben Corking fired home an excellent free-kick from 30 yards out, firing into the top left-hand corner of the net, giving Andrew Patterson in the Amble goal no chance (1-0).

Amble did have a good chance in the 20th minute, when Sean Taylor headed just over the crossbar with the home keeper James Howard beaten.

Then on the half-hour, Amble had a good shout for a penalty but the referee just played on.

After the interval, Amble got an equaliser in the 47th minute when Taylor made a good run down the right and crossed for Adam Shanks to head home at the far-post (1-1).

Amble took the lead in the 48th minute when, once again, a good run down the right and shot by Taylor found the bottom left corner of the net (1-2).

Amble continued to play some very good attacking football, putting the home defence under all sorts of pressure and creating some very good chances.

Morpeth very nearly got a goal back in the 76th minute but for a great save by Patterson.

However, Amble went straight down the left side, with Ross Gair finding Taylor to square a good ball across for Josh Hay to slot home in the 77th minute (1-3).

Then, after some good approach play down the right, Hay fired home for his second in the 86th minute to make the final score 1-4 to Amble, maintaining their unbeaten run in the league.
