Travelling Town collect the points

North Shields...1

Alnwick Town...3

COACHES Ray and Mark will be glad they came away from North Shields with all three points at the weekend.

The lads didn’t play anywhere near the very high standards they’ve set themselves this season, but hard work from the whole squad got them through in the end.

The back four of Liam, Harry, Max and Reece were largely untroubled in the opening stages, even though North Shields were seeing a lot of the ball. So it was a bonus when they scored against the run of play.

Billy set off on one of his mazy runs that took him to the by-line, from where he fired the ball low and hard into the box, with Alfie ready to pounce. It cannoned off a North Shields defender and went in (0-1).

Ten minutes later and it was 0-2, Alfie this time with the shot from the edge of the box that beat the goalkeeper.

Just like last week, Moffat had to pull off a fantastic save at a crucial time, diving athletically to keep out a well-struck shot.

Tombo, Cam, Billy and Will reacted to the close shave and Town had their best spell of the match.

Tombo found Harvey, who turned on the half-way line and powered towards goal from a tight angle, firing an unstoppable shot over the keeper and into the net (0-3).

Early in the second-half Kieron, Sam, Ant, Brandon and Ben came on but Shields were still having plenty of the ball and soon brought it back to 1-3, capitalising on a goalmouth scramble.

At the other end, Harvey and Brandon worked a neat one-two on the edge of the box, with Brandon finding space for the shot, but it bounded off the crossbar onto the goal-line and safely into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Tombo and Cam came back on to put in a great shift and make sure the game ended 1-3.
