Town prove too tough for southern visitors

Alnwick U10...2 Ponteland U10...0

ALNWICK proved too tough for the visitors in a well-fought victory.

The game commenced with both eager to climb up the league and early exchanges were scrappy.

After eight minutes a quick one-two between Jayden Eden and Joe Aynsley produced the game’s first clear chance with Aynsley’s shot well saved.

Within minutes, Eden had a similar chance but fired just over the bar.

Ponteland’s attack was kept at bay by Felton and Wass who again looked strong at the heart of Alnwick’s defence, well supported by stand-in keeper Max Paige.

The first half ended 0-0.

Ponteland swapped their goalkeeper and centre forward at the start of the second half and Harry Johnson, the new keeper, produced some outstanding stops to keep the score at 0-0.

Ten minutes into the second half, Jayden Eden went on a dribbling run before crossing for Aynsley to fire Alnwick into the lead.

Man-of-the-match Eden topped off his performance with another mazy run and a bullet of a shot that left the keeper with no hope.

Alnwick were well-deserved winners with good performances also by Tom Forster and substitute James Crisp.
