Alnwick lost out to a last-minute goal in a clash with mid-table Whickham, at St James’ Park,this afternoon.
The home side had a penalty within the first few minutes of the match, but the effort by Tony Brown was saved by the visitors’ keeper.
Neither team managed to score in the first half leaving it 0-0 at the break.
As the second half started Chris Fawcett tried to break the deadlock but his attempt failed.
And Dale Kennedy also tried with a header which went just over the bar.
Fawcett had another chance later in the half but the ball blazed over again.
But it was Whickham who finally put a ball in the net when Matthew Atkin took shot past theAlnwick keeper in the last few minutes of the game.
Alnwick next face top-of-the-table North Shields at home on Wednesday.
