Town get points penalty

Bottom-of-the-table Alnwick Town Football Club have been deducted three points after fielding an illegible player.

The penalty relates to the Northern League Division Two match against Brandon United on August 25 this year, which Alnwick lost 4-0.

It is a blow to the St James’ Park side who have had a poor start to the season and are at the foot of the table.

The penalty leaves Alnwick with two points from 12 games; six points adrift of second-bottom Stokesley Sports Club .

Club chairman Tom McKie put the incident down to ‘a mistake’.
