Richard Stanwix, who played for Craster & Embleton in the North Northumberland League last season, is the latest to put pen to paper on a new contract.

The physical attacker becomes the club’s second newly confirmed signing of the summer, following the arrival of Josh Hall from Wooler, and is raring to go ahead of the Northern Football Alliance Premier League campaign.

He has already impressed his new teammates in training and manager Paul Yeadon said: “I am delighted Richard has agreed to come on board and I am sure we will read his name in the headlines many times throughout the season.

“Excitement is building ahead of the new season as we look to continue the building of a young, hungry and energetic squad.”

Meanwhile, two two of Alnwick’s three senior teams enjoyed their first run outs of pre-season on Saturday afternoon.Alnwick Town first team travelled to Wallsend Boys Club to play on their new 3G surface, winning the game 3-1 courtesy of goals from Paul Muers, Joe Threlfall and Kieran Hogg.

The lads put in a controlled display that resulted in lots of minutes for the players involved. The squad included a number of Development Squad players as manager Yeadon ran his eye over some of the younger talent in the club.At the opposite end of the county, the Development Squad travelled to the Borders to take on Border Amateur side Berwick Colts.

The side, giving minutes to a number of the new U23 squad players and boasting no fewer than six youngsters playing their first senior game, had the best of the action in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Lewis Fairbairn and Eithan Balmbra both impressed and grabbed goals on their first senior appearances for the club.

The sides both now look ahead to the rest of their schedule before the big kick off in August whilst the U23s officially begin their warm up campaign next Saturday when they take on Craster & Embleton United.
