Shilbottle progressed to the quarter finals of the Combination Cup with this hard fought victory at the Welfare Ground.

Play was fairly even early on with Josh Hay hitting a post for the Colliers after 10 minutes and Hexham putting a good chance just wide of a post.

It was the Colliers who opened the scoring on the half hour when a good ball into the box from Chris Graham was forced home from close range by Ross Stewart.

Hexham then struck a post with a cracking drive and it remained 1-0 at the break.

Shilbottle should have increased their advantage shortly after the restart when Matty Graham put a free header over the ba .

However, he redeemed himself after 65 minutes when he headed home a Ryan Douglas cross from close range to put the Colliers two ahead.

Hexham hit back within minutes when a long range drive from Michael Robson took a wicked deflection off a Shilbottle defender to leave the home keeper helpless.

A cracking save from Sean Straker in the Shilbottle goal kept his side ahead as Hexham pressed for an equaliser but the game was settled five minutes from time when substitute Kenny Collins poked home from close range.
