Seasiders end their season in fine style

Alnmouth United's season was finally brought to a close last midweek with a 4-1 win at Hazlerigg Victory.

The three points ensured a fifth place finish in division two in their first season back in the Northern Alliance.

Fittingly played in pouring rain throughout, the visitors put in their best performance for some time and were soon ahead when Ryan Taylor was in position to find the net after Jorden Frost’s effort thudded back to him off a post.

Usually an outfield player, Andrew Martin turned out between the posts for the Seasiders and was able to display his agility with an acrobatic top corner save onto a post to protect the lead, before the advantage was doubled on 20 minutes as Andy Murray placed wide of keeper Josh Graham, having received from Matt Robson.

The deserved third followed as the break approached, with Frost involved again as the centre back powered down the left and supplied a neat chipped cross to pick out Liam Jefferson at the far post, whose low header hit the target.

Martin was denied his clean sheet on 70 minutes when Robson was adjudged to have brought down Mitchell Ramsay in the area, and Richie Coulson converted from the penalty spot.

Kevin Bell then restored the three-goal lead as the campaign’s parting shot, diverting Brett Rogerson’s centre past Graham.
