Hull City academy midfielder Jordan Hickey and former Boston United defender Karl Byrne have finally become part of the Spartans squad after spending time training with the club earlier this year.

Michael Nelson has also added to his options at the top end of the pitch after he completed a move for former Newcastle United academy striker Lewis McNall.

The 22-year-old frontman was highly-rated during his time in the youth ranks at St James’ Park but his development was stunted by a series of unfortunate injuries.

However, it is the capture of Reid that will excite the Croft Park faithful after he became a firm terrace favourite during a four-year stay with the club.

The former West Allotment Celtic midfielder scored 66 goals in 186 games for the club and helped them win the Northern Premier League title and Northumberland Senior Cup.

He said: “This was the club that gave me the opportunity to jump from the Northern League and show what I could do.

“From being here and experiencing this club, from what we were when we were here, and to see what they became after, it wasn’t nice to see.

“You want this team to survive in this league because it helps this area.

“From some fans I hope I don’t get the weasel shout from when I scored against them!

“I was aware Blyth were keen to get me back in – knowing the club and playing for this club, the opportunity to play here again is good.”
