Seahouses unlucky as Rothbury take points

Seahouses U12 1 Rothbury U12 3

Glendale League U12

Rothbury discovered the power of three on Saturday in this Glendale League U12 encounter as a trio of goals defeated an unlucky Seahouses team.

Seahouses started the brighter of the two sides, but slowly Rothbury started to work their way into the match and a Thorsten Robinson pass found full-back Alex Kidd overlapping on the Rothbury right. A swift ball into the box was seized on by David O’Dowd and his first time shot was accurately placed into the corner (1-0).

The goal, however, only strengthened the resolve of Seahouses and for the rest of the half they pinned back their opponents with a spell of concerted pressure.

One effort drew a corner and from that set piece Seahouses drew level. The cross was headed clear by Hugh Dennis, yet a Seahouses player was first to the ball and his parried shot was eventually poked home (1-1).

From strong wing play by Robbie Bulloch, Rothbury went ahead early in the second half. Picked out by a diagonal ball from James Williams, Robbie accelerated down the right flank.

Seeing an on-rushing defender, he played a cross into the box. Unfortunately for Seahouses, a resulting challenge diverted the ball up and over the helpless keeper and into the net (2-1).

Cameron Austen-Walker, now on for David O’Dowd at the apex of the Rothbury attack, was receiving the ball then turning his marking defender to launch further attacks. From one such turn, Cameron passed the ball wide to James Williams who drove down the right flank.

His whipped-in cross caused havoc in the Seahouses area. First Alex Wharrier then Thorsten were unable to find a way through the frantic defence.

Yet, just when the danger seemed to have been averted, Cameron flicked the ball in (3-1).
