Rovers strike late to net win

Rothbury Rovers U10 3 Seahouses U10 2

Glendale League U10, Premiership Cup

Rothbury Rovers had just enough to edge out an unlucky Seahouses in a thrilling Glendale League U10 Premiership Cup encounter on Saturday.

The Coquetdale side took the lead thanks to Gareth Rickaby, who drilled the ball high into the corner of the Seahouses goal.

Seahouses levelled before half-time, when the winger cleverly slipped the ball to an unmarked teammate who swept home the equalising goal.

Rothbury regained the lead in the second period. A corner found centre-back Hugh Dennis, who had pushed up for the set piece.

Receiving the ball with his back to goal, he swivelled to shoot. The shot was scuffed yet true and the Seahouses keeper could only watch as it rolled into the corner of the net.

Despite the lead, Rothbury looked nervous and Seahouses capitalised when an unmarked striker levelled the scores.

This enthralling game was settled by a late winner.

With two minutes to go the ball was played long from the Rovers half and Rickaby fashioned himself a yard of space from his marker. Killing the ball instantly, he pushed it ahead of himself and away before firing in the shot.
