Morpeth Sunday League round-up
The Lewin Cup quarter-finals were finally completed this week and, for the second week running, Red Row defeated Pegswood, the scoreline being 2-1.
With the Red Row goals coming from Adam Shanks and Sean Palmer, the Pegswood response came from Ashley McAlpine.
The remaining two Challenge Cup quarter-finals were also completed this week as both the Shakespeare Tavern and Stobswood progressed to the semis.
Shakespeare Tavern defeated their fellow Division Two opponents 3-1, thanks to goals from Ian Elliot, Scott Sherrington and Mal Lawson. North End’s goal came from Jack Small.
In the other quarter-final, Stobswood edged out Morpeth Chantry 3-2. Mark Oman grabbed a brace for Stobswood with the other strike coming from Robert Baker. The Chantry replies came from Ryan Murphy and Steven Young.
Ashington RAOB overcame Bedlington Barrington Arms 3-1 and they now sit three points behind Pegswood with a game in hand. However, they have a vastly inferior goal difference. On target for The Buffs were Darren Reay, Shaun Gibson and Craig Robinson. The Monkey reply was scored by Dylan Williamson.
Wharton Arms Bedlington defeated Amble Dock Hotel 13-0. Scoring for Wharton were Joe Moscrop (three), Damon Mullen (three), Chris Dobey (two), Joe Bolam (two), Simon Cunningham (two) and Robbie Black.
Bomarsund and HMP Northumberland played out a hard-fought 3-3 draw. Veteran striker Kris Grey got a hat-trick for Bomarsund, with the HMP replies coming from Staples, Wren and Dodds.
In the only other Division Two game, East Chevington defeated Amble Blue Bell 3-1, thanks to a Gary Reid brace and an effort from Jack Godfrey. Amble’s solitary goal was scored by John Spears.
