Rampant Buffaloes hit the Lodge for six in the top flight’s only game of the day

Division One

There was only one game played in the top division on Sunday as the first round of the Challenge Cup took place.

Ashington RAOB pickedup a 6-0 victory over Riverside Lodge thanks to braces from Shaun Gibson and Keith Douglas and a goal each from Gary Bailes and Liam Burton.

Challenge Cup

In the first round of the Cup, Amble Tavern picked up a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Amble Dock Hotel. Scoring for the Tavern were Nathan Buddle (two), Darren Riddell and Liam Brooks. Amble Dock’s goals were scored by Andy Metcalf (two) and Matthew Spears. Bedlington Barrington Arms took their place in the next round after a 4-1 away win against Alnmouth Argyle, with Michael Third notching twice and further goals from Chris Moffitt and Daniel Dargue wrapping up the victory.

Wharton Arms defeated Division Two leaders East Chevington 5-0 thanks to a Joe Moscrop double and solitary strikes from Jamie Chapman, Josie Bolam and Scott Hulme.

Division Two

HMP Northumberland and Morpeth Shambles played out a competitive 2-2 draw, with Ryan McCue and Jason Singh scoring for HMP. Notching for Shambles were Stuart Marshall and Jack Palmer.

Ashington Conchie defeated Amble Blue Bell 4-0 and in doing so moved above HMP Northumberland into third place. On target for the Conchie were Kevin Orkney, David Heppell, Richard Stobbart and Paul Key.
