Put to the sword

Longhoughton Rangers...4

Cramlington Town Yellows...1

RANGERS’ good form continued as they returned to league action this week and made it three straight wins in Division Three.

The early minutes saw both teams with a good amount of possession, Longhoughton with the wind in their backs started to find themselves more in the opposition half of the field.

Coxford went to ground in the box and the referee awarded a penalty, which Coxford finished well.

Rangers were soon two up when the ball fell to McKewan just inside the penalty area, saw a gap and fired into the bottom corner.

As the game entered stoppage time in the first half, Anderson hit a sweet left-foot shot into the goal to put further daylight between the teams.

Cramlington, now with the wind at their backs, pushed hard to get back into the game and were frustrated by the stubbornness of the Rangers defence as the whole back four put in a great performance and gave keeper Slack little to do.

Rangers were throwing bodies in front of everything thrown at them, but Cramlington did pull one back when their centre-forward finally managed to break the shackles of Pusey and fire home with a good finish.

Rangers then managed to gain some ground and the final 10 minutes were played in Cramlington’s half. Dan Thompson rounded off a great performance with a goal, which saw Rangers move above Town in the table.

Rangers: T Slack, D Thompson, J Allan, W Archbold, B Clapcott, J Robson, J Pusey, G Lindley, J Turnbull, R Coxford, E McKewan, P Anderson, J Caufield.
