Wooler crashed out of the Bluefin Sports Bill Gardner Memorial Trophy with a 1-0 first-round defeat against Hexham this afternoon.

Matteo Faiola hit the only goal of the game to see the Tynedalers through to the next round.

Newcastle Building Society Premier Division: Connor Andrews struck twice in the second half as leaders Blyth Town maintained a 13-point lead at the top of the table and extended their winning run to 15 games. Jack Stanley slid in the opener for the table-toppers against Ashington Colliers.

Carlisle City young-gun Keiron Blair marked his debut with a late winner against Walker Central in an end-to-end encounter. Rob McCartney (two, including a penalty), Alan Casey and Josh Simpson netted the others while Central had Matty Hayton (two), David Kane and Sam Grieveson on the scoresheet.

Dan Thompson grabbed a second-half treble in Wallington’s big win over North Shields Athletic after a double from Liam Anderson and a John Paxton strike had put the Greens in charge.

Alex Benjamin (two), Francis Storey, Louis Howe and Richie Latimer were on the goal trail for Killingworth Station at Northbank, who replied through Ashley Pattinson, Jordie Cowley and Ricky Lee James in another exciting match.

Rutherford and Whickham SC both recorded big wins on the road to book places in the semi-finals of the Durham FA Trophy.

Rutherford were trailing at Sunderland Hylton but turned on the style after the break with Zak Atkinson slamming home three times and Steve Wilson, David Boyle, Ricky Tanoh and Sameet Brar all chalking up.

Ryan Davenport’s double helped six-shooting Whickham to success at Murton with Kevin Hay, John Dewhirst, Ed Keenan and Robbie Frame all joining him on the scoresheet.

Nike Division One: Leaders Percy Main stretched their lead at the top to eight points as Micky Haley (two), Redmond Cockburn, Jorge Bollardo and Davey Surrey beat the Blyth Isabella keeper with Daniel Carr hitting a hat-trick in reply.

A last-gasp Danny McDonald penalty gave Cramlington Town the points against AFC Newbiggin. McDonald’s opener was cancelled out by Richie Kennedy, but he stepped up to fire in the winner from the spot.

Cullercoats slipped to a surprise home defeat with Oliver Walker notching a double and James Golby and Alex Anis adding the others for Newcastle Uni while Chris Glass, Callum Donahoe, Ryan Cockburn, Andrew Welsh and Josh Monaghan slammed in for Bedlington Terriers Reserves at Wallsend Boys Club. Nicky Whitelaw got the consolation.

Tommy Bainbridge grabbed a couple in Newcastle Chemfica’s big win over Ponteland United. Garrick Murphy-Collins, Martin Dixon and Robi Kingswell added the others, with Gary Cook claiming United’s lone reply.
