North Sunderland remain unbeaten in Alliance

The games have continued to come thick and fast for teams in the Northern Alliance with two fixtures each in the last week.

In the Development Division, North Sunderland remain unbeaten with five wins and a draw out of six, putting them one point behind early leaders Ponteland Reserves.

On a Wednesday the Seahouses side dropped their first points in a 2-2 draw away to Morpeth Town, but on Saturday they got back to winning ways with a 5-4 home win over Newcastle East End Reserves. Goalscorers were Adam Weightman (2), Max Clark, Stephen Rutter and Ross Stanton. On Saturday North Sunderland are home to Heaton Stannington A.

Wooler beat Lowick 1-0 in a local derby in midweek with J Strangeways netting the only goal. On Saturday they lost 4-1 away to Ponteland Reserves with C Cowans their goalscorer.

Last night (Wednesday) the Glendale side were away to Heaton Stannington A and on Saturday they face Whitley Bay Sporting Club A at home.

Lowick, following their defeat at a Wooler, also lost at home on Saturday, 4-0 against Gosforth Bohemiens Reserves.

On Saturday, Lowick are home again against Newcastle East End Reserves.

In the Premier Division, Alnwick Town suffered their third successive defeat in the league when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Blyth Town on Wednesday.

Blyth were the better of the two sides in the opening exchanges, creating several chances, and they took the lead after 20 minutes with a header from Hepple.

On 33 minutes the visitors doubled their advantage when they were awarded a penalty and Shaun Gibson converted from the spot.

And just a minute later it was effectively game over as Blyth netted a third, a powerful header from Dunn evading Brooks in the home goal.

In the second half Alnwick created more than they had in the opening 45, but they were unable to find a way through and the visitors left with all three points, Town now pointless after three opening league defeats.

Last night (Wednesday) they were home to Wallington and on Saturday they are home to Ponteland.
