Newsham spot on for Sunday League semi'

Two sides from the Blyth & Wansbeck Sunday League met in the NFA Sunday Cup with Newsham and New Delaval at home against Bedlington Social Club.

It turned out to be a very good encounter between the two sides. The Social Club took the lead in the first half with a goal from Damien Mullen, which they held on to at the break. Newsham drew level with a goal from David Lillico. However, once again Mullen restored the Social’s lead, only for Lillico to take the tie into penalties, where Newsham held their nerve and progressed into the semi-final.

Another side in cup action was West Allotment who played in the Sunday Minor Cup. They also had a very close game away against Newcastle Chemficia. This game ended goalless and went to penalties, where Allotment went through 4-1.

In league games Station Lounge Ashington and Blyth Town Sunday shared the spoils in an eight-goal thriller. On target for the Lounge was Matty Nelson (2), Ben Mordue and Jordan Streener. Liam Gillesphey led the scoring for Blyth Town with two, Paul Katz and Connor Leason netting the other goals.

Blyth Rangers had a very tough game at home against Bedlington Station SC. However, they came up short going down 4-1. Azeem Anwar scored for the Rangers. Oliver Dowling led the scoring for the Station Club with a hat-trick. Ethan Page completed the scoring.

Ellington Plough went down at home 5-3 against Bedlington Bank Top. On target for the Plough was Byren Atkinson (2) and Jordan Anderson. Goals for the Bank Top came from Glenn Reardon, Reece Farrell, Tommy Wilkinson, David Kewn and Jack Ince.
