Relegation-threatened Newcastle United take on Tony Pulis’s side looking to end a run of eight successive Premier League defeats.

But head coach Carver has been hit with more bad news on the injury front.

Forward Siem de Jong is OUT of the game after revealing was “not strong enough” yet for the rigours of the Premier League after recovering from operations on his lung and thigh.

And fellow forward Adam Armstrong is doubtful for the match, for which defenders Daryl Janmaat and Mike Williamson are suspended.

Carver said: “Siem has unfortunately got an issue with his thigh, and he has not done a great deal of training this week.”

De Jong said on Twitter: “I’m not injured again, I’m just not strong enough yet. I hope to train again next week and help the team as much as I can the last games.

“I’ve tried to come back as soon as possible after 2 heavy operations. I wish I could have done more!”

Striker Papiss Demba Cisse – who has served a seven-game ban – could be involved, having returned to returning to training following knee surgery, along with fit-again winger Rolando Aarons, who made his comeback in an Under-21 game on Tuesday night.

Aarons has been sidelined for the past six months with hamstring and thigh injuries.

Forward Yoan Gouffran – who missed last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Leicester City – is also back in the squad.

“Rolando Aarons got through 45 minutes the other night,” said Carver. “The first 15-20 minutes he was fantastic – exciting – then he had a little dip and then came again.

“He is in a good position, whether he will be involved this weekend, I’ll have to see.

“Even Adam Armstrong has come in with a tight calf, so we have got one or two things where we will have to wait until the last minute.”

Cisse – who had a screw removed from his knee in March – is the club’s top scorer with 11 goals
