Scott Brown reveals Newcastle snub

Celtic captain Scott Brown has revealed he turned down offers from Newcastle and Tottenham in favour of staying at the Scottish giants.

The 35-year-old, who is joining Aberdeen next season after 14 years at Parkhead, insists he never entertained offers from elsewhere during his heyday.

He told Sky Sports: “I had offers from Spurs. I spoke with Harry Redknapp but it was too soon for me.

"I wanted to come to Celtic and enjoy it, and I was starting to really enjoy my football at a club that had put a lot of faith in me – in hard times as well.

“They stuck by me so it was great to give a little bit back as well. Neil was the manager at the time and I had an opportunity to go to Newcastle.

"I was out of contract but Lenny (Neil Lennon) told me he wanted to keep me as captain and build the team around me.”

Steve Bruce wants to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent basis with the midfielder scoring five goals in 11 appearances since his loan move in January.

Wright doubts Willock’s future involvement at the Emirates, which could then play into United’s favour.

Speaking to Premier League promotions, he said: "Joe Willock is doing very well at Newcastle, (William) Saliba’s doing well as well.

"I’d like to see Joe Willock get an opportunity but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I don’t think we should be signing (Dani) Ceballos, I just don’t think he’s what we need now.

"I think that we’ve got young players coming through who should get an opportunity in front of Ceballos."
