Longhoughton Rangers 2 FC Amble Juniors 2

Amble travelled the short distance to play local team Longhoughton Rangers at Westfield Park, on Sunday, February 27.

Amble opted to play with the wind in the first half, hoping to take advantage.

Rangers scored first, within five minutes attacking the Amble goal. They took a shot early from the edge of the penalty box going low into the bottom corner, 1-0.

On 22 minutes Amble equalled the score with Max Anderson playing the ball down the left wing to James Oliver. He crossed in a good ball to Ali Batey who slotted the ball in to the back of the net from six yards out, 1-1.

Andy Flanighan and James Aston playing in central defence stood up to the Rangers’ attack with some good interceptions for the remainder of the half.

Ronan Straughan played a good ball to Callum Fenwick on the right hand side, cutting inside the penalty area, and then firing a hard low shot on target with the Rangers keeper saving well.

The home team attacked the Amble goal again with Cameron Roper pulling off a good save to keep the scores level. Going into the closing minutes of the first half, Rangers attacked down their left side whipping in a looping cross that somehow found the back of the Amble net, 2-1.

Early in the second half Cameron Roper pulled off another important save for Amble. Minutes later Jordan King had a good chance to level the score, pulling his shot just wide of the post.

Nathan Potts collected the ball for Amble making a good run into the penalty area. He was pushed, losing his balance, and the ball, with appeals for a penalty, nothing was given. Ali Batey collected the ball inside the Longhoughton penalty area, with his back to the goal. He then moved the ball out of his feet, and fired in a curling shot to the far post giving their keeper no chance, 2-2.

From then on Amble had countless chances to increase their lead, the first with a Callum Fenwick effort going just over the bar.

Billy Heckels played a good ball down the left for King with his cross into the box that was cleared to safety. Ali Batey had a chance from close range with a header, however with the ball just behind him, Batey couldn’t get the power and the keeper collected safely.

Jason Imeson and Rangers Ben Courty battled hard throughout the game in midfield, backed up by Brad Little playing next to him working tirelessly.

Imeson then got his head to the ball first on the edge of the area to stop another attack from the home team that would have been another chance on goal.

Max Anderson then played a great through ball to Jordan King on the edge of the area, with a good touch towards goal, he fired in another shot on target with the keeper saving again.

Rangers played the ball into the box again with the wind behind them, Amble’s keeper Cameron Roper reacted first coming off his line to collect the ball with an awkward bounce in front of him. Going into the closing minutes of the game Ali Batey slipped the ball through to Jordan King, who put his shot just wide of the target.

This was a good second-half performance from the Amble boys playing some good football, however lady luck was not with us today in front of goal, and with some good goal keeping from the home keeper, both teams had to settle for a share of the points.
