Murray and Anderson at double for Alnmouth

After the customary sluggish start, Alnmouth progressed through to the second round of the Divisional Cup, ultimately with something to spare courtesy of double strikes from Andy Murray and Sean Anderson.

The home side were deservedly punished on 25 minutes when Corey Foden ran through and shot past Mick Ashurst although the home side had gone close earlier when Kevin Bell struck the far post.

The vital leveller arrived when Anderson dispossessed a defender to run on and fire past Ross Candlish.

Immediately after the interval, the Seasiders forged ahead when Murray found the net with a deft touch.

Redheugh were allowed back in on the hour when Andrew Williams scored from close range.

United eventually regained the advantage 15 minutes later with an intricately worked goal beginning with a corner: Murray took it short to Anderson who found Jefferson who returned to Murray who finished it off by hitting the target.

Any lingering doubts were extinguished on 89 minutes as Anderson and Jonnie Graham’s swift break ended when the former expertly doubled the lead.
