George Cave Cup Final

Amble Tavern walked away with the trophy after narrowly triumphing 1-0 over Bedlington Social Club.

The first half was an extremely cagey affair with neither side dominating nor creating much in the way of chances. The best opening fell to Bedlington Social Club right on half-time with the ball breaking to Andrew Carr in the box following a corner but his effort was skied over the bar.

Amble Tavern had the better of things in the second half but were consistently denied by some brilliant saves from Bedlington goalkeeper Liam Douglas who was awarded man-of-the-match for his efforts. Bedlington’s stubborn resistance was finally broken five minutes from the end. A diagonal crossfield ball evaded Bedlington full-back Michael Carr and found its way to Amble substitute Liam Brooks.

Brooks struck the ball firmly on the half-volley and it found the bottom left-hand corner of the goal, handing the victory and the trophy to Amble Tavern.

Division One

In the only other game of the day, Ashington RAOB defeated Morpeth Shambles 1-0 with a goal from Lee Scott to seal the Division One title.
