To mark his 20th and last season as Ebac Northern League chairman, Mike Amos has planned a 500-mile sponsored walk - around 12 match-day miles to each of the 44 grounds.

The minimum target is £10,000, with the money being split between the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and a number of community-based charities nominated by clubs and drawn at the annual league dinner in May 2016,

Next Tuesday (August 25), Mike, who is 69, plans to walk the 12-miles to Alnwick Town’s St James’ Park for their game.

Mike says: “Already we’re half way there in cash terms, hoping far to exceed the target and grateful to so many generous folk for getting the thing – if not its chief participant – off to a flier.

“The decision to help the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was what I think the younger generation calls a no-brainer.

“Sir Bobby was a wonderful friend to the Northern League and its clubs right from the time he launched the Northern League Club in 1998 and without thought of any reward save for a plate of pie and peas.”
